Lowe’s Outlet provides the following refund options for approved returns with a valid receipt: If payment was made using a debit card or cash, there will be a cash return.

Lowe’s return policy covers the following: original wrapping, proof of buying, refund procedure, customized items, purchases made online, and holiday merchandise. It has days and methods of return of the products.

If you paid with a cheque less than three days ago, you will receive in-store credit. Refund in cash if the purchase was made three days or more ago using a cheque.

All-purpose Returns

When returned within 90 days of the original purchase date, the majority of new, unused items are eligible for a refund or exchange with proof of purchase.

A full year from the date of purchase is allowed for returns if the item was purchased using a Lowe’s Commercial Account (LCA), Lowe’s Business Advantage (LBA), Lowe’s Advantage Card (LAC), or Lowe’s Business Rewards (LBR).

Particular Methods of Payment

  • Purchases purchased with a debit card will be refunded as cash or paid back to the debit card.
  • Refunds will be issued as in-store credit for purchases made using a Lowe’s Gift Card, merchandise card, refund card, or in-store credit. 
  • If a cheque is returned within three days of the purchase, the refund will be issued as In-Store Credit; if the cheque is returned beyond that time, the refund will be issued as Cash or as In-Store Credit, depending on the refund verification mechanisms in place. If check verification systems reveal that you have an outstanding bad cheque with Lowe’s, no refund will be given.
  • Purchases made using Lowe’s Pay are reimbursed back to the financing company, who will deal with your refund directly. Purchases made with Lowe’s Pay are not eligible for Lowe’s credit card return policy extensions, nor are they refundable in cash or as in-store credit.

Policy Exceptions for Returns

  • 48-Hour Return Policy: Must be started within 48 hours of delivery or pickup; applicable to certain products only.

Return Policy for 30 Days

  • Does not apply to certain branded corded and cordless outdoor power equipment items with a 90-day return policy. 
  • Special conditions apply to products like mowers, chainsaws, generators, and more.
  • Applies to items like TVs, electronics, outdoor power equipment, plumbing, water heaters, air conditioners, liquid paint, highway trailers, utility vehicles, and golf carts.

Returns Without Purchase Receipt

Depending on the current selling price, products without a valid receipt may be eligible for in-store credit. It’s important to make sure you always have a duplicate of your original receipt. Receipt scanners and storage apps can be quite helpful.

Seasonal Products

Returns must be made by the deadline on the day of the holiday, such as Christmas. After-holiday purchases are final sales; returns are not accepted.

Non-Refundable Items

  • Installation and labor fees
  • Delivery and/or shipping fees from Lowes.com (unless Lowe’s made a mistake)
  • Refund, product, and in-store credits; 
  • Gift cards of any sort, including Lowe’s, Visa®, MasterCard, and third-party; 
  • Masks: No returns or exchanges of any kind are permitted for safety masks or facial coverings.


Within a year after the initial purchase date, a receipt is needed for any tree, shrub, or perennial purchased at Lowe’s in order to receive a replacement or refund. Our ninety-day return policy is applicable to all other plants.

Particular Order Configurable Items Rediscount Charge

Products with special order configurations that are returned or canceled within 72 hours of purchase will be charged a 20% restocking fee. Has to be brought back to the retailer where the item was bought. Some states will impose taxes on the restocking charge. Unless your installation contract specifies otherwise or you have the option to cancel, this restocking fee is applied to installed sales.

Hazardous Materials or products such as Lithium Batteries

No matter how empty they are, anything with lithium batteries or flammable liquids, gasses, or hazardous chemicals cannot be returned by mail; instead, they must be returned to your neighborhood Lowe’s store.

Issues with Your Order

Contact Lowe’s customer service within three days of receiving the item for damage resulting from shipment or delivery, missing products, or shipping or delivery errors.

Policy for General Outlets

  • The majority of sales at Lowe’s Outlet stores are final and non-refundable.
  • Products at Lowe’s Outlet can be returned or have cosmetic damage. It is recommended that customers carefully scrutinize products before making a purchase.
  • You can only return merchandise that you bought at a Lowe’s Outlet; you cannot return merchandise to normal Lowe’s retail stores or to another Outlet.
  • Returns of merchandise to Lowe’s Outlet stores are not accepted for purchases made at normal Lowe’s retail stores.
  • For all accepted returns, a legitimate receipt is necessary.

Authorized Returns

  • Only items with mechanical or electrical faults are eligible for return at Lowe’s Outlet.
  • These authorized returns must be started within 48 hours after obtaining the item.
  • We do not accept returns for electrical or mechanical damage that happened after delivery or purchase.
  • It is not possible to accept returns for aesthetic damage or any other cause. 

Return Procedures for Authorized Returns

Lowe’s Outlet provides the following reimbursement procedures for authorized returns that include a valid receipt:

  • If payment was made with a debit card or cash, the buyer will receive a cash refund.
  • If the payment was made with a cheque less than three days prior, in-store credit will be granted.
  • If the item was purchased three days or more ago, a cash refund will be given.
  • If the purchase was made using a credit card, you will receive a credit to your card.
  • If the transaction was made using a gift card or in-store credit, the buyer will get in-store credit.

Items that are not refundable

You are unable to return or receive a refund for the following.

  • Refund, product, and in-store credits.
  • Any active third-party gift cards (Visa or MasterCard).
